Ajax closes deficit with furious second-half rally

Soccer Betting Lines

01/28/2007 - Groningen, Holland (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ajax rallied from a two-goal deficit to score three times in the second half and record a thrilling 3-2 win over Groningen at Euroborg on Sunday.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first on goals by Yevgeni Levchenko and Luis Suarez for the home side, Ajax mounted a serious second-half attack. Jaap Stam got the visitors on the board seven minutes after the restart and Johnny Heitinga leveled the match in the 82nd. However, Ajax was not ready to settle for a single point, and Leonardo Santiago knocked home the winner in stoppage time.

The win allows Ajax to close to within eight points of front-runners PSV, who were stunned 2-0 at Roda on Sunday. The Amsterdam club has now taken 10 points away from its last four games, and does not seem ready to concede the league crown to PSV quite yet.

Ajax came out strongly in the opening half but failed to put the ball across the line. It was Groningen who found the net in the 19th minute against the run of play as Hedwiges Maduro hacked down Goran Lovre inside the penalty area, awarding Groningen a penalty kick. Levchenko then stepped to the spot and made no mistake, putting the home side in front.

The goal seemed to lift Groningen, and they added to their tally five minutes before the break. Bruno Silva's free-kick found Suarez inside the six- yard box, and the striker slammed home his header to make it 2-0 at halftime for Groningen.

Despite the two-goal cushion, the hosts never looked totally in control, and they found themselves up just one goal seven minutes into the second half. A breakdown in the Groningen back line allowed Stam to cruise in behind the defense and drive home the opener for the visitors, beginning the stirring comeback.

After long periods of pressure over the next 30 minutes from Ajax, the club found its equalizer in the 82nd courtesy of a Wesley Sneijder corner kick. Sneijder's cross was well placed and found Heitinga eight yards from goal, where he sent a powerful header past a helpless Bas Roorda in the Groningen net.

Leonardo came on as a second-half substitute and made his presence felt just before time. Sneijder's shot on net was blocked by a defender, but the ball fell nicely inside the area. Leonardo then raced to it and arrived just in time to slot past Roorda and send the Groningen faithful home in disbelief.

In other Eredivisie play on Sunday, Roda stunned PSV 2-0 at Parkstad Limburg Stadion, Feyenoord got a pair of first-half goals and held off RKC Waalwijk 3-1 and Twente scored two times in the second half to move past Den Haag 3-1.

Super Bowl XLIII Betting - Super Bowl 2009

Super Bowl 2009, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Let’s take a look at the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds and the betting line and figure out where they’ve been and where they are going to go.

MySportsbook.com put up the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds late on Sunday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers favored by 6.5 points and a total betting line at 47.5 points.

Since then, however, the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds have seen a good deal of movement and you’ll want to be on top of where they are likely to move to make sure you get the best line value for the big game.

Since opening, the Super Bowl 2009 betting lines went to Steelers -7 in the span of roughly 3 hours but were quickly bought back down just minutes later to 6.5 again.

After that is took about 5-6 more hours before the betting line went back to -7 where it has sat for a while now and is likely to remain. The opening betting total of 47.5 was bet down right after the line became available and went to 47 within minutes.

Roughly a day later it has been bet even further down to the 46.5 tally it currently is set at.

Roughly 60% of gamblers seem to be on the Cardinals here so the point spread will be bet down and a 7.5 would not last very long at all with many taking the early 6.5 in hopes of finding a potential middle in the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds.

If you like Arizona and see a 7.5, I’d take it as soon as possible because it’s unlikely to last. For Pittsburgh backers, the -7 might be the best you’ll be able to find but a 6.5 is definitely possible close to game time.

Regarding the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds for the total, most tracked gamblers are already on the over and with those who took the under 47.5 already securing a middle on the over 46.5, the only way I see it moving is back up to 47 so if you like the over, I’d recommend betting now.
