Haas, Fish cruise in first round at Memphis

02/21/2007 - Memphis, TN (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Second-seeded German Tommy Has and fourth- seeded American Mardy Fish had no trouble in their first round matches at the $665,000 Regions Morgan Keegan Championships.

Haas, who defeated Swede Robin Soderling in last year's Memphis final and also titled here in 1999, crushed American Vincent Spadea, 6-4, 6-1.

Fish, meanwhile, had no problems with Bjorn Phau, blasting the German 6-3, 6-2 at The Racquet Club of Memphis.

Additional first-round wins came for American Amer Delic, Argentine Juan Martin del Potro and Danish Kristian Pless. Delic topped his compatriot Paul Goldstein 7-5, 7-6 (7-0), the rising del Potro pasted Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 6-1, 6-2 and Pless downed Russian Igor Kunitsyn, 6-3, 6-1.

This week's top seed is U.S. Open runner-up Andy Roddick, who captured this event in 2002 and was the runner-up in 2003. Roddick will open his 2007 stay here against Swede Thomas Johansson on Wednesday.

The 2007 Memphis champ will pocket $156,550.

American Idol Betting Odds: Season 6

"Blake Lewis should go far because of his uniqueness and looks.  He's the boy next store with a twist - he beat boxes.  But on top of this, he's a great singer, and I adore him," Payton O'Brien relayed.

A talented beat-boxer Blake Lewis was a hit during the group sing in Hollywood but Simon explained that this is a singing contest just before he told him he was “in.”

Paul Kim has caught our own roving reporter, Jenny Woo's eyes. 

"I love the fact that there is a Korean American on the show and he is bound to get more Asians tuning into the show," Woo said from her Miami Beach estate.  "There has never been a major presence of Asian-Americans on American Idol in the past.  He's a hottie with a nice voice so that should help to take him far.  Expect heavy betting action from the Asian community."
