Carey Price turned in a solid effort, stopping 29-of-30 shots for Montreal, which ended a 6-1 road trip with a 5-4 win at Florida on Thursday.
After a scoreless opening period, Buffalo broke through with 6:56 played in the second when Connolly put home a Jason Pominville rebound.
Miller stopped all 20 shots faced through the first two periods, while Price made 21 saves.
In the third period, Montreal had the better of the chances, but Miller had the answer on all 10 Canadiens shots in the stanza.
Then with the goaltender pulled in the final minute of play, the Habs had a couple of chances from in close, but Miller stopped Tomas Plekanec and Mike Cammalleri from point blank range with 14 seconds left. Buffalo then won the faceoff and chipped the puck out of their defensive zone to preserve the win.
Game Notes
The Sabres earned a 4-3 win in Montreal on December 14 and has won six of its last seven versus the Canadiens overall...Brothers Sergei (lower body) and Andrei Kostitsyn (undisclosed) both missed the contest for the Habs.
